Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some answers
Am I able to invest with Northfin?
We are only able to work with high net-worth and/or sophisticated investors, depending on your jurisdiction. The acceptable criteria may vary. As per requirements set by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), we must assess whether our clients have the necessary knowledge and experience to understand the risks in our investment products. It is important to us that our products are suitable and appropriate for our clients.
Why do you need my personal information?
We are required by UK law to conduct proof of identity and proof of address checks to comply with money laundering and Know Your Client regulations.
What is the minimum investment amount?
At present our minimum investment amount per offering is £25,000.
Can I receive my money back at any time?
Typically your capital and any profit will be returned when the loan term has finished as the majority of our deals are on an interest rolled-up basis so you would not be able to receive any repayment prior to the loan being repaid. Occasionally some of the offerings may allow for monthly or quarterly liquidity events; this will only occur where the offering is a loan into a 3rd party fund with a portfolio of loans, and which allows for a mirrored agreement to our investors.
Can I invest in a company name or other legal entity?
Yes, you can register as a corporate investor on sign-up. We are also working to launch the product with SSAS and SIPP pension providers.
Is Northfin regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)?
There is no requirement for Northfin to be a regulated entity where we restrict offerings to high net-worth and sophisticated investors, and participation / sub-participation agreements in our loans.
How does Northfin make money?
We believe in aligning ourselves with our investors. We do not charge any management fees or entry fees into our investments (save any banking charges which will be passed on at-cost). Where we have forward-funded a transaction, we include an interest spread prior to our investor offering, but this will only be received by us after investors have been paid the advertised rate on their loan.
